Obituary of James Luther Boyd

Dr. James Luther Boyd went to be with the Lord on Aug. 2, 2018, after suffering heart failure during the night.“Big Jim” was born January 31, 1936, in Baxter Springs, KS, the only child of Luther and Wanda Mae Boyd. On June 7, 1958, he married the love of his life, Carolyn Bergstrom, with whom he had three treasured children and three children-in-law whom he considered his own. He thoughtfully juggled the responsibilities of family, friends and work, but his service extended to include countless young women from The Gladney Center, volunteer work with Young Life, and serving on several boards including Young Life and Cornerstone.He attended Southwestern Bible College, The University of Texas and UT Southwestern Medical School, then began his OB/GYN practice in Fort Worth. After 30 years and delivering many of the babies in town, he retired and began a second career as a minister to senior adults at Christ Chapel.He took care of his family first and foremost. He was a faithful, loving husband and a kind, protective father, but no role fed his soul more than being a grandfather. His grandchildren sparked his heart like no one else, and the feeling was unanimously mutual.He loved to travel around the world with family and friends, often taking his medical and ministerial expertise to minister in impoverished countries. Jim was blissfully unaware of his inability to play golf or use electronic devices, so he stockpiled the newest equipment and latest gadgets, including a Bluetooth speaker he called Pandora, thinking that was its name.More than anything, Jim loved the Lord with all of his heart. His personal relationship with Jesus and his steadfast, selfless spirit allowed him to be a beacon of faith, hope and love.He is survived by his wife Carolyn of 60 years; son, Keith & wife, Dee Ann, of Dallas; daughters, Karan Jamison & husband, Steve, of Boerne, and Debbie Petty & husband, Richard, of Fort Worth; grandchildren, Hannah & Graham Thompson of Austin, Benjamin Boyd of Baltimore, Claire Boyd of Washington, D.C., Sarah & David Jamison of Fort Worth, Stephanie & Sean Maguire of Stillwater, OK, Macy Jamison of Boerne, and Ellis Petty of Fort Worth; four great-grandchildren; and a host of extended family and friends who mourn that he is absent from the body but rejoice that he is present with Christ, which was his ultimate hope.
