Obituary of Shirley Reed Clark
Shirley Reed Clark, Jr. passed away on Jan. 5, 2021 at the age of 88.Shirley was the son of Shirley Reed & Pearl Clark of Cleburne, TX. He is survived by his son Ronald Reed Clark & wife, Julie; granddaughter, Kelly Clark Hargrave & husband, Harrison; sister, Gail Keasler & husband, Don; nephew, Stephen Keasler; niece, Stephanie Harris & husband, Kent.Shirley grew up in Cleburne, TX. He graduated from Cleburne High where he played quarterback on the football team and met his future wife Quanita. Upon graduation, Shirley set off for College Station and was a proud member of the Texas A&M Corps of Cadets. He graduated from A&M in 1953 with a degree in Business. Following graduation, he served 2 years in the Army at Fort Bliss having served as a Company Commander. Upon discharge, Shirley spent 25 years with First National Bank of Fort Worth progressing from Clerk to Senior Vice President. And in 1980, he went to work for the Burnett Companies as Vice President of Finance, retiring in 1992.Shirley & wife Quanita lived in Fort Worth for 60 years and were active contributors to their community as members of Arborlawn United Methodist Church, Shady Oaks Country Club, the Petroleum Club of Fort Worth, the Texas Bankers Association, the Kiwanis Club, and Ridglea Country Club where they were members for over 50 years.In his early years at Ridglea CC, Shirley played golf every Saturday and always had the first tee time. He won the Father/Son Championship in 1972 with Ronny & the Mr. & Mrs. Club Championship in 1985 with Quanita. At age 88, Shirley was still playing golf & continuing his weekly gin rummy games at Ridglea up until March 2020 when COVID quarantines began.Shirley considered one of his greatest accomplishments to be serving in the Corps of Cadets at Texas A&M. He was an active member of his Class of ’53 reunion group and proudly wore his Aggie ring for 68 years.Shirley was a devoted son, brother, husband, father & grandfather. His friendly personality and strong work ethic benefited him well in his personal & professional life, earning him lifelong friends in the workplace, on the golf course, and at A&M.Shirley is preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 62 years Quanita Gosdin Clark, & grandson Nelson Reed Clark.
