Obituary of John Joseph Baird
John Joseph Baird entered the kingdom of God on Wednesday, September 3rd, 2019, after a fall and traumatic brain injury.Joe was born in Haynesville, LA on September 5, 1931 as the single son to John Thomas Baird and Audrey Harrell. He had two older sisters, Tommie Pepper and Evelyn Walker. Joe was a bright and diligent student in school. He received a Bachelor’s degree in petroleum engineering from Louisiana State University and a Master’s degree in civil engineering from Southern Methodist University. He served in the U.S. Army as a 1st Lieutenant for the Corps of Engineers just prior to the end of the Korean War. During that time, Joe was stationed in Europe, where he married his sweetheart Edmee Hymel in Laon, France. Edmee and Joe have been parishioners of St. Peter’s since 1956. He retired from General Dynamics – Lockheed after 36 years as a design engineer for the F-111 and F-16, having been recognized with awards for outstanding leadership and design in avionics.Joe was a man of deep faith, integrity, and honor. Hi instilled these values in his daughters and was an inspiration to his grandchildren. He was proud of his children’s and grandchildren’s accomplishments. But his favorite thing was family. Joe dearly loved family get togethers and family reunions.He was a loving father and husband survived by his wife of sixty-five years, Edmee; two daughters, Jeanette Baird Vaughan and Susan Baird Carter; daughter-in-law, Lori Holman; grandchildren, Lt. Commander Berry Vaughan, USN, Ret., Lt. Commander Ashton Vaughan, USN, Paige Vaughan, Elizabeth Carter, and Adam Carter; nine great-grandchildren and many loving extended family members.
