Obituary of Jimmie Joyce Farmer

Jimmie Joyce Farmer, 86, passed away on Sunday, December 13, 2020. Jimmie Joyce “Dede” Farmer was born August 16, 1934 on her grandparents’ farm outside Sherman. A few years later the family moved to Fort Worth, where Dede graduated from Arlington Heights High School. She studied piano and was once invited as a youth to play with the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra. The oldest of five children, Dede was a teenager when her two younger sisters were born, and spent much of her time helping care for them. She also helped out in the family’s restaurant, The Playdium Cafe, adjacent to Tavener’s Playdium bowling lanes. It was there that she met her husband Charlie. They married in 1953 and had two children, Faron Farmer and Tracy Farmer DeBolt. Dede was devoted to her family and home even while working full time as a claims adjuster. She made time for cooking and gardening, and sewed most of her and Tracy’s clothes. Both Dede and Charlie were avid and accomplished bowlers; she won many awards including bowling an amazing 299 game and winning a state doubles championship with her cousin, Mary. She enjoyed traveling to tournaments and league bowling, forming many lasting friendships with her teammates. In retirement Dede busied herself with helping care for her mother, gardening, playing bingo, watching her beloved Texas Rangers baseball, and making occasional trips to Winstar with Charlie, her sister Sharon, and her brother, Ed.She also delighted in time spent with her five grandchildren, and later her great grandchildren, all of whom adored her. Many of them learned to say “Dede” almost as soon as “Mama” or “Dada”. She was always there for little league sports, recitals or performances, or filling in for Mom or Dad if you needed a ride. And if you were really lucky, she’d take you with her for some bingo!Dede was committed to her Catholic faith. She read scripture daily and kept a list on her bedside table of the many friends and family that she prayed for. Dede was preceded in death by her parents, Jim and Edna Furche, her husband, Charlie, and her brother, Max Furche. She is survived by her son, Faron Farmer and wife, Lisa; daughter Tracy DeBolt and husband, Chuck; grandchildren, Adam Farmer and wife, Lisa, Cale Farmer and wife, Jennifer, Charlie DeBolt and fiancé, Erin, Cory DeBolt and fiancé, Ashley, and Sarah DeBolt: great-grandchildren Corbin, Leighla, Rylee and Jaxson; brother, Ed Furche and wife, Judy; sisters, Sharon Frye and Rebecca Wehbe; and extended family.
