Betty Dale Capps Martin was born June 5, 1938, to Charles Patrick Massey and Lela Mae Ingram of Johnson County, North Carolina. She was one of 9 children.  She departed this world for her heavenly home on March 21, 2024, at the age of 85.

Friends are invited to a Visitation at 9:30 a.m. and Funeral Service at 10:00 a.m Monday, March 25, 2024 at Renew Church, 6509 Bosque Blvd., Waco, TX.

Interment: 2:30 p.m. at Hillcrest Garden of Memories, Hillsboro.

Betty’s childhood was spent in the Princeton/Smithville area of North Carolina located in Johnson County. She married Earl Lee Capps on December 4, 1954, in South Carolina while Earl was serving in the U.S. Army. Shortly after marriage as a 16-year-old girl she boarded a ship with all of the other soldier wives to join up with their husbands in Yokohama, Japan. While they were stationed in Japan she gave birth to her firstborn, a son, Andy Capps, on May 14, 1956.  Unfortunately, Andy’s life was cut short by illness, and he passed away on November 24, 1956, at the age of six months.

Earl’s military career took them to Germany twice, Alaska, Oklahoma, North Carolina, Viet Nam and finally, Killeen Base in Killeen Texas where he retired and the family moved to Hillsboro, TX. While stationed in North Carolina Betty gave birth to a second child, Theresa, on November 17, 1958, and then while stationed in Stuttgart, Germany, she gave birth to her third child, Sandra, on December 11, 1960.

During her life Betty worked as a dental assistant at B.D. Patterson, DDS in Hillsboro. She also worked for Family Diagnostic Medical Center in Hillsboro for many years as a CNA. Betty lost her husband Earl on February 15, 1994, after 40 years of marriage. She then re-wed Jerry Martin on September 20, 2000. The two were married 23 years when she passed.

She is survived by her husband, Jerry Martin of Woodway, TX; daughter, Theresa Wood and husband Jerry Ray of Covington, TX; daughter, Sandra Porter and husband Terry of Glen Rose, TX; sisters, Margaret Wiggs, Joann Creech, and Jesse Smith all of North Carolina; seven grandchildren; twenty great grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild. She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl Capps, one son, her parents, and five siblings.
